Sevilla 1890: uno de los clubes clásicos para la FIFA

A finales del año 2012, la FIFA elaboró y publicó un apartado en su propia página web oficial, donde se enumeraban los grandes clubes clásicos del fútbol mundial. Por supuesto, entre ellos estaba el Sevilla FC, del que se ofrecía una breve reseña histórica desde su fundación en 1890.

El título que encabezaba el artículo sobre el club hispalense no podía ser más acertado:

El fútbol llegó a España a bordo de barcos británicos. Alcanzó Sevilla mediante el mismo medio de transporte, puesto que el río Guadalquivir es navegable hasta la propia ciudad. Trabajadores locales y extranjeros de la compañía naviera MacAndrews fundaron un equipo en 1890. Fue primeramente creado como asociación privada de carácter deportivo y cultural, y fue oficialmente registrada según la ley vigente el 14 de octubre de 1905.

Football arrived in Spain aboard British ships. It reached Seville by the same method of transportation, given that the Guadalquivir river is navigable right up to the city. Both local and foreign employees of the MacAndrews shipping company formed a team in 1890. It was first created as a private cultural and sporting association, and was officially registered according to the regulations in force on 14 October 1905.

Ángel María Villar visits Sevilla FC’s history since 1890

Last March 2015, the president of the Royal Spanish Football Association, Ángel María Villar, visited the exhibition 1890. The Origins of Sevilla FC. As shown by the picture below, the president of the RFEF was presented with a framed copy of the article published by The Dundee Courier and Argus in 1890, which describes the founding of the Sevilla Football Club and their victory in the first football match played in Spain. This visit was later picked up by the official magazine of the highest body of football in Spain

 

The president of the RFEF, Ángel Villar, and Sevilla FC’s president,  José Castro, visited the area in the Sánchez-Pizjuán stadium that recreates the history of the Seville club. They both contemplated the showcases that collect some of the moments of the long history of the club, like some of the kits worn in the first years of the club’s history, which is now more than 100 years old.
